After 81 years, BBC Bengali radio broadcasting is ending

  1. Aajkal Webdesk: After 81 years of continuous radio service, BBC Bengali radio broadcasting is going to end forever.

The last two sessions of BBC Bangla Radio will be broadcast this Saturday night.

  1. News and current affairs programs 'Pravah' and 'Parikrama' will be aired for the last time this Saturday at 7 pm and 10 pm IST. The program will be presented by Mansi Barua in London and Akbar Hossain in Dhaka.
  2. The decision to close BBC Bangla Radio comes against the backdrop of sweeping changes to the BBC World Service. In September, the World Service announced plans to stop radio broadcasting in Bengal.
  3. BBC Bangla editor Sabir Mustafa said, "BBC has been emphasizing on digital platform for several days, now this process of change will be accelerated."
  4. BBC Bangla Radio started on October 11, 1941 with a weekly newsletter. The journey of BBC Bangla Radio began with the mission of conveying the message of the Allies to the people of the Indian subcontinent during the critical period of the Second World War.
