The Writing Method I Apply to Write My Medium Stories
- A good writing strategy is different for every writer. This method comprises a few basic steps, which help me organize writing.
- Writing is a combination of skills that comprises a series of certain steps. All writers go through their own different writing processes before they complete their first draft.
- All writers learn by focusing on the writing process. By breaking down the steps, the writer understands the mystery of the writing process.
- Most writers start by choosing the topic, brainstorming ideas, outlining the topic, and composing sentences, and paragraphs to complete the first draft.
- After completing the first draft, they revise their work and read it again to edit it. In editing, the writer checks grammar mistakes, sentences, and paragraphs, and organizes the topic.
- The five common steps of the writing strategy I follow are:
1. Pre-writing
- This is the first step of the writing strategy. Before I write, I think about the topic I want to explore and do research on. I search for the important points in the topic. The topics that contain extra questions are perfect to pique the interest of readers. I divide the main topic into sections.
- Research
- After deciding on a topic, it is time to search for relevant resources and information. This method is different in different fields.
· Primary and secondary resources.
· Reading the relevant articles.
2. Planning and Outlining
- The second step in the writing strategy is planning and outlining the main topic. It is important to set a structure to convey information. I like to note the structure in advance in a journal before writing on the screen. It helps me to organize ideas and connect with the topic. I use bullets and numbers to cover the ideas.
3. Writing the first draft
- After establishing the structure of the outline for the main topic, it’s time to produce the first draft. I write the introduction in the first draft. After starting the first paragraph, I shift to the next paragraph with transition words to connect the ideas.
4. Redrafting and Revising
- After the first draft, it’s time to redraft the first draft. Redrafting means adding or removing unnecessary content. It is best to check the draft after a break with fresh eyes. There are some steps I keep in mind while redrafting:
1. Illogical information.
2. Passages in which information is additional.
3. Passages that are irrelevant.
- After completing the step of redrafting, it is time to start the revision step. This step involves some important points:
· Change the content.
· Reordering text.
· Cutting additional text.
5. Editing and Proofreading
- The last step is editing and proofreading. Editing means clarity and sentence structure. Proofreading requires improving grammatical and typing errors. While proofreading, it is important to look for four common mistakes:
· Spelling errors.
· Missing words.
· Confusing words.
· Missing space.
· Punctuation.
- Final Words
- Following the steps of the writing process is crucial for every writer. Starting from your first draft to the end of proofreading and editing. Every step is important. Evaluate all the steps of the topic and read it again and again. Edit the topic carefully at the end before submission.
