What is the future of Honors in English?

No matter what subject you are doing, English is a must for you. Learning English is not just about learning vocabulary and grammar. It also involves acquiring skills like listening, speaking, writing and reading. It is almost impossible to get a degree or a good job without knowing English. So almost all people speak English willingly or unwillingly. Moreover, English language education is given considerable importance in the education system of our country. English was one of the handful of departments that were started in Dhaka University in 1921. As the saying goes, 'The English sun never sets', this department has maintained its importance, popularity and social standing for more than a hundred years. Green University of Bangladesh is successfully managing the 'English Department' by giving priority to these issues.

Former chairman of Rajshahi University's English department and former dean of the Faculty of Arts.  ............  is currently serving as the chairman of this department. Apart from this there are several experienced and skilled faculty members.

Those concerned say that Greene University's English program is moving forward based on several factors. These include quality students, qualified and experienced teachers, quality course curriculum, efficient administrative staff and advanced physical infrastructure. 

What is taught
In our country, two major subjects can be studied in English at undergraduate and postgraduate level. One is 'Language' and the other is 'Literature'. Poetry, stories, novels, plays and linguistics written in English are mainly taught at the Honors level. In addition to these at postgraduate level, theory, principles and methods of teaching literature and English language are emphasized. However, apart from the own world of English, introduction to Bengali literature, history, philosophy, anthropology and cultural studies are also taught in this department.

How important is the career
English department has always been, will continue to be in the future. Having skills in English but not having a job is a rare occurrence these days. Graduates proficient in English are working proudly in various government and private institutions in the country and abroad. It goes without saying that English language skills are valued in the diverse labor market of the 21st century. Keeping this context in mind, Green University's English department is preparing contemporary modern curriculum and syllabus and teaching English language and literature as a thread.

Getting a government job is everyone's dream these days; If you want to get a government job then knowing English is a must. Graduates and postgraduates will undoubtedly be ahead in this regard. BCS Cadre (General and Technical) has occupied a big place in this regard. English is most important among other government jobs. Translators are also in high demand in publishing houses these days. Career in tourism can be made through English language. Those with English language skills can also work as tour guides and tour operators. After doing BA or BED, MA, M.Ed in English, one can pursue a career as a school teacher. There is an opportunity to start working as a lecturer in colleges and universities.

Why Green University
Green University is now a notable name in the private university arena of Bangladesh. Although established in 2003, it is now the leading private university in the country due to the overall efforts of all concerned within a short period of time. Students of Green University and English Department are getting job opportunities on priority basis in various institutions of the reputed US-Bangla Group. The university does not end its responsibility only by awarding the degree to the students, but also works towards providing career guidance, internships and jobs to the students. Center for Career Development (CCD) has been established for this purpose. There is an opportunity to get admission in other universities of the country and abroad by credit transfer.

of tuition fee waiver based on SSC and HSC exam results so that the children of less affluent and middle class families can get higher education. Apart from this, children of freedom fighters, tribals, students and national team players are given special facilities for education. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of examination results after admission.
