Changing the genre (or form) will not only help you move from your place and gain insight, but most importantly, it will bring your blog to life. After all, who would enjoy reading only case studies or just interviews over and over again?

That’s why I offer you a list of 10 different kinds of blog posts in this article:

1. Infographics

First of all, the infographic should make sense in itself. However, if you put it into context, you can also use it as a blog post. Wrap the infographic with text.

  • Describe what led you to create the infographic.
  • Describe to readers the methodology of research and infographics.
  • Use it as an illustration or complement to what you write about in the article.

2. Collect external resources

If you want to save time and effort while writing, this is the way for you. Basically, this is a form of list where you link to external sources.

3. Lists

If you are writing an educational article and want to present it in an interesting and easily digestible way, the list is the ideal solution. The advantages of lists are:

  • Thanks to the breakdown of the article into points, you can make a longer and more difficult text more transparent.
  • Subtitles in the style of “8 reasons why…”, “10 tips like…”, are appealing to readers and will grab their attention.

You can create a list in 3 different ways:

  • You build your list gradually. During work, education. Create a place where you will write down each point. When there are enough of them, you just put it all together and the article is in the world.
  • You have a more complex topic that needs to be broken down to make it more understandable to people.
  • You have a good idea for the list, but only 2–3 points come to mind. Then use a miracle tool called Google :)

4. Interview

Find an interesting person from the field in which you do business and interview him a little. Organize a face-to-face coffee meeting or send an email with questions. It is the interview that can bring your blog to life in an unusual way.

The advantage of an interview is also that you take a little break from writing. However, this does not mean that it will take less time. It’s hard to imagine a bigger “fail” than coming to an interview unprepared.

To begin with, I recommend adhering to the following principles:

  • Find out as much information as possible about the person you’re interviewing.
  • You don’t have to interview just someone who is popular or well-known in your area. The main principle when choosing a respondent is to make it interesting.
  • At the beginning of the conversation, give him general questions about what he does, why he does it, what he enjoys about it. Alternatively, invite him to introduce himself. Whether you are interviewing someone more or less familiar, you need to introduce it to readers at the beginning of the conversation.
  • Na konci položte otázku „Je čokoľvek, čo by ste chceli dodať?“ Dáte takto svojmu respondentovi priestor vyjadriť myšlienku, ktorú nemal šancu povedať počas rozhovoru.

I still haven’t convinced you of the benefits of an interview? There is one more argument. If you ask your respondent to share your article, you will gain new readers. Of course, the more popular a person is, the more benefit it will bring to you.

5. Case studies

Writing educational stuff in an engaging way is great, but it’s mostly “just” a theory. To convince pragmatically people, give them numbers and results.

The benefits of case studies are:

  • You can use an article in the form of a case study as a presentation to convince a potential client.
  • Thanks to them, you will present a job that you are proud of.
  • At the same time, case studies are a great way to reach fact-hungry readers.

6. Business News

Under the news we can also understand the latest information from the field of your business.

7. Stories

People love stories. Stories about how a new product was created. Stories about what you experienced at a conference or training session. People’s stories have success.

Ask a person who has been working with you for years to write what they have learned from you. Or a new worker to describe the reasons why he came to you.

8. Reports

They are a summary of what has happened in recent years in your company or in your business. The best opportunity to create a report is the beginning of a new year, when you can summarize what happened last year.

9. Instruction manual

We could also name this point “Do it yourself” or “How to do it.” However, whatever we call it, the point remains the same. Advise people on how they can do something on their own.

10. Company news

In addition to educational articles, the blog can also be used for selfpromo. You can post news from the life of the company or introduce a new product.

However, avoid the typical marketing sales style. Rather than writing about how cool your new product is and what makes it better than the competition, tell people a story about the product. Why you created it, how it was created, who worked on it, and refer to the sales page of the product or service.
