Bangabandhu's birthday is today
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali Bangabandhu of a thousand years, was born in the family of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman and Sheikh Saira Khatun in Tungipara, Gopalganj. The little 'Khoka' of the Lutfar-Saera couple later emerged as the savior of the liberation of the people of this country.
- Today is the 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh. He was born on this day in 1920, 17 March in Tungipara, Gopalganj. The day is celebrated as 'National Children's Day' every year as a tribute to this great hero.
- A one-day public holiday has been declared on this occasion. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth anniversary, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.
- Awami League and its affiliated organizations and various social and cultural organizations have undertaken various programs throughout the day. Awami League has taken two programs which will be held in Dhaka as well as Bangabandhu's birthplace and tomb Tungipara complex.

- The undisputed leader of Bengali Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman got involved in politics in his school days. He was jailed for the first time for joining the anti-British movement when he was an eighth grade student of Gopalganj Mission School. After matriculation, while studying at Calcutta Islamia College, Hussain came close to political leaders like Shaheed Suhrawardy and Abul Hashim. With the help of these leaders, he established himself in the arena of politics as a student-youth leader.
- After gaining independence from the British rule in 1947, Bangabandhu returned to Dhaka and advanced with new political ideas. Formed the Chhatra League in 1948 with colleagues. When Pakistan's first opposition party 'Awami Muslim League' was formed against the then ruling Muslim League on June 23, 1949, the young leader Sheikh Mujib got the post of joint secretary of the party. Later, the word 'Muslim' was dropped from Awami Muslim League and the party was named Awami League in a non-communal spirit.
- Bangabandhu played an important role in all the movements and struggles against Pakistani military rule, including the language movement of Bayannar, Ayub Khan's anti-military rule movement, education movement of 62 years. He had to go to jail again and again because of these movements for Bengali rights. He was appointed to the cabinet of the United Front government in 1954. As Awami League chief, Bangabandhu announced the historic six-point independence of the then East Pakistan and Bengali liberation charter in Lahore on February 5, 1966. General Ayub Khan, the dictator of Pakistan, filed a conspiracy case against the leaders including Bangabandhu and sent them to jail. Bengalis freed Sheikh Mujib from prison through the historic mass coup of 1979. At this time, Sheikh Mujib was honored with the title of 'Bangabandhu'.
- Awami League won the 1970 election as the single largest party in Pakistan. But the Pakistani ruling group did not hand over the power to Bangabandhu through various conspiracies. After that, Bangabandhu transformed the autonomy movement through various setbacks first into independence movement and finally into independence movement. As a continuation of this movement and struggle, Bangabandhu started an unprecedented non-cooperation movement in March 1971. On March 7, in a historic speech at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan), he thunderously declared, 'This time's struggle is our liberation struggle, this time's struggle is freedom's struggle'. In continuation of this, when the liberation war started with the declaration of independence on March 26, the country became independent after a long nine-month war.
- Bangabandhu could not continue the work of nation building for a long time in the independent country. He was martyred in the night of August 15, 1975 with his family at the hands of power-hungry assassins at his residence. The great hero Bangabandhu died just three and a half years after independence.
- Awami League's program on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday includes President Md. Tungipara on March 17. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pay respects at Bangabandhu's tomb in Tungipara. After that, a delegation of Central Awami League will pay respect there. After the tributes, a children's gathering will be held there. A discussion meeting will be held in Dhaka on March 19 afternoon. Besides, the flag will be hoisted at the central office of Awami League in Dhaka and at all offices across the country at 6:30 am on March 17. Awami League will pay tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait at Dhanmondi-32 in Dhaka under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at seven o'clock that morning.
- Besides, on the birthday of the father of the nation, prayers will be offered for him in all religious places of worship. Dua and Milad Mahfil in all mosques of the country including Baad Zohar Baitul Mukarram National Mosque as part of nationwide special prayer program. At 8 am at Tejgaon Church, at 6 pm at Mirpur Baptist Church (3/7 at Senpara, Pavarta, Mirpur-10), the Christian community at the same time Buddhist community at Merul Badda International Buddhist Vihar in the capital and at 11 am at Dhakeshwari National Temple Hindu community prayer meeting. did
- Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader urged the countrymen along with party leaders to observe the health protection rules and celebrate the birthday of the Father of the Nation.
